Davidoff Cigars

Zino Davidoff started out selling fine quality cigars in Switzerland. Even before he made his personal line of cigars, Davidoff is already popular among the elite as a great middle man for cigars. He was even credited to invent the desktop humidor – a small tool that can preserve the already lit cigar. The humidor will be able to preserve the temperature and humidity that’s best for the cigar. His break into the cigar making business came in the late 60s when he was offered by Cubatabaco, Cuba’s state tobacco making company to make his one line of cigars. He readily agreed as Cubatabaco at that time was the sole producer of Cuban cigars. It was in 1969 that the first edition of Davidoff cigars was created. The next decade, the world experienced the first series of Davidoff cigars called the Mille series. During the 80s, the Chateau series of Cuban cigars was also released. A special cigar, this was made for the 80th birthday of Zino Davidoff.

By 1991, Davidoff cut off his relationship with Cubatabaco because of quality and competition reasons. It was said that Davidoff personally burned more than hundred thousand boxes of Cuban cigars because of quality. But even before the relationship and the eventual discontinuation of Davidoff’s Cuban Cigars, the world is already full of Davidoff Cigars that were made in the Dominican Republic. The Davidoff brand of cigar is now owned by Imperial Tobacco.

The types of cigars of Davidoff could be differentiated into four different groups: The first line of cigars, the chateau series, the mille series and the “80 Anniversario”. The first cigars comes in different names and they mostly cigarillo (cigarettes), laguito, Churchill and panatela. The chateau series and the mille series are hand made cigars with different sizes and lengths. The special “80 Anniversario” is called a Giant Corona. A very big cigar, it measures 9 ¼” x 47.

Most of the Davidoff Cigars are rich in taste with a distinctive smoothness. You can feel the earthly taste but not too much compared to other types of cigars. The spicy taste will always be there but the compensation or blend of smoothness is always there. The smoothness of this cigar is perfect for anyone who wants a simple cigar that can be used daily. Moderation is encouraged since this could really get you on the hook because of the flavor.

Since Davidoff has cut off his production of Cuban cigars and transferred his operations to the Dominican Republic, there are small but distinct changes in the brand. There was even a little confusion since a company claimed that their cigars were used to fill the gap during the Davidoff’s Cuban cigars transfer to the Dominican Republic. Although it was not acknowledged by the company, it was thought that it was actually a different brand only with the Davidoff name.

Davidoff continues to be one of the leaders in the industry of premium cigars. All over the world, people recognize the brand as a smooth and quality cigar.
